A more resolving compact Castle
At the heart of Walmer 1 is a 130mm woven carbon fibre bass/midrange driver. Carbon fibre’s high stiffness-to-weight behaviour helps the cone remain controlled as it moves, reducing unwanted flex and supporting clean transient response.
The result is a midrange that feels open and precise, with vocals and instruments presented clearly without becoming hard or overexposed. Bass notes have definition and timing, while the overall character remains natural, balanced and musical.
True ribbon treble
Walmer 1 uses a 12 × 45mm true ribbon high-frequency unit to deliver treble with speed, air and fine detail. Because the ribbon diaphragm is extremely low in moving mass, it can respond quickly to subtle changes in the signal, helping reveal ambience, texture and space within a recording.
Rather than pushing detail forward, the ribbon adds openness and refinement. Its wide horizontal dispersion helps create a broader listening area, allowing Walmer 1 to sound spacious and balanced across real seating positions, not only in one ideal sweet spot.
Engineered for integration
The crossover in Walmer 1 has been developed to allow the woven carbon fibre bass/midrange driver to hand over naturally to the ribbon high-frequency unit. This helps preserve tonal continuity through the upper midrange and treble, so voices, strings and acoustic instruments remain coherent and expressive.
The cabinet is also engineered to provide a stable, quiet foundation for the drive units. Cast alloy driver chassis, internal bracing, damping materials and long-fibre wool absorption work together to reduce unwanted cabinet effects and preserve musical clarity.
A cabinet designed to disappear
Every aspect of Walmer 1’s cabinet has been designed to support the loudspeaker’s acoustic performance rather than impose its own character on the sound. A rigid driver platform, carefully controlled internal damping and Castle’s furniture-grade cabinet construction help reduce colouration and allow low-level detail to emerge naturally.
This gives Walmer 1 the ability to sound composed and spacious from a compact enclosure, with stereo imaging, midrange clarity and treble refinement that feel larger than its physical dimensions suggest.
